  Longest Christmas cracker chain: Birmingham breaks Guinness World Records' record (VIDEO)

Birmingham, UK -- Birmingham has broken the Guinness World Records' record for the longest Christmas cracker chain; office workers, restaurant staff, shoppers and passers-by gathered in Brindleyplace for the cracker pull this lunchtime; they succeeded in creating the longest chain with a total of 749 people, setting the new world record for the longest Christmas cracker pulling chain, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/ .

The Guinness World Records' record for the longest Christmas cracker pulling chain is 603 participants and was achieved by the RuneScape Community, at RuneFest 3, Tobacco Dock, London, UK, on 2 November 2013.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the longest Christmas cracker; it measured 63.1 m (207 ft) long and 4 m (13 ft) in diameter and was made by the parents of children at Ley Hill School and Pre-School, Chesham, Buckinghamshire, UK.

  The previous Guinness World Records' record was 603 people by a gaming company in the UK, the Birmingham Mail reported.

  Lydia Ellis, marketing manager at Brindleyplace said: "We had a fantastic turnout for today's record attempt and I'm delighted to say that we had 749 people turn up to help us create the world's longest Christmas cracker pulling chain."

  Lydia added: "On behalf of everyone at Brindleyplace, I would like say a huge thank you to everyone that turned up, including members of the general public and the local business community.

 "Hosting community events is incredibly important to us at Brindleyplace and we hope that this record attempt helped to spread some Christmas cheer throughout Birmingham!"
