The Guinness World Records' record for the heaviest pumpkin weighed 911.27 kg (2,009 lb) when it was presented by Ron Wallace (USA) at the New England Giant Pumpkin Weigh-off at Topsfield Fair in Topsfield, Massachusetts, USA, on 28 September 2012.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest pumpkin pie; it weighs 1,678 kg (3,699 lb) and was made by New Bremen Giant Pumpkin Growers (USA) at New Bremen Pumpkinfest in New Bremen, Ohio, USA, on 25 September 2010.

A Swiss gardener has grown the world's heaviest pumpkin — and it weighs almost as much as a small car. Beni Meier, 30, had to use a special vehicle to transport the fruit, which tipped the scales at 2,096.6 lbs, NBC News reported.

An official from the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth association was at the weighing, which broke a Guinness World Records' world record previously held by California couple Tim and Susan Mathison.

The pumpkin will remain on display in Klaistow, Germany, until it is "slaughtered" on November 2.   "We will probably make a good soup out of the pumpkin," added Ziehl, who said that its seeds would be in high demand and probably auctioned off.

The Swiss pumpkin, an Atlantic Giant variety, was actually smaller than a pumpkin he managed to grow last year (see below video) which weighed in at the magic 1,053 kilos, so over a ton, but it was dismissed by officials because it had a hole in it and therefore wasn't perfect.
