First dolphin with a prosthetic tail: Winter the dolphin sets world record (Video)
CLEARWATER, FL, USA--Winter, a bottlenose dolphin at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium in Clearwater, Florida, was found off the coast of Florida, caught in a crab trap, which resulted in the loss of her tail; she was fitted with a silicone and plastic tail which enables her to swim normally, making her the World's first dolphin with a prosthetic tail

The Guinness world record for the most dolphins born in a year in a single facility is 11 and was achieved by Delphinus Xcaret, Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo, Mexico, from 28 January to 4 December 2008.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the Highest Frenquency Hearing - Animal was set by Bats (order Chiroptera) who have the most acute hearing of any non-aquatic animal, due to their ultrasonic echolocation. Most species use frequencies in the 20-80 kHz range, although some can hear frequencies as high as 120-250 kHz, compared with almost 20 kHz for the human limit and 280 kHz for the common dolphin (Delphinus delphis).
Winter was found off the coast of Florida in December 2005, caught in a crab trap, which resulted in the loss of her tail.
Winter was lying on the beach for 36 hours before someone ever came to find her. The next day she was found and taken to Clearwater Marine Aquarium.
She was fitted with a silicone and plastic tail which enables her to swim normally. Kevin Carroll, who had designed prosthetics for other animals (including dogs, an ostrich and a duck), volunteered to help.
Carroll and a team of experts from Hanger Prosthetics and Orthotics took a year and a half designing and testing a tail for Winter, eventually settling on a simple silicone and plastic tail.
Winter is now doing so well that she no longer wears her prosthetic tail.
She has since become a highly popular attraction at the aquarium, which led to the film's making.
Winter is the subject of the film Dolphin Tale, a dramatization of her story.
