With 6 Olympic medals, the Rio Olympic Games were a big success for Belgium. Therefore all the athletes were welcomed very enthusiastic by the visitors and it became a very cozy atmosphere in the stadium even before the athletic series begun!

A lot of Olympic athletes made a round of honor in convertible cars. From Belgium it was Nafi Thiam(gold women heptathlon) who was presented and also the Red Lions(silver men's hockey) were there.

There were also 4 brand new gold medalists! Not in Rio but the women's 4x100 relay team from Beijing 2008 received their gold medal from Jacques Rogge, former IOC president, after retesting the Russian athletes where one of them seems to use doping.
Therefore Olivia Borlee, Hanna Marien, Elodie Ouedraogoand Kim Gevaertmade a round of honor in the stadium and were getting a big applause from the visitors.

Nancy Brock, Brand & sponsorship manager at AG Insurance said: "A wonderful attempt, many visitors participated during the attempt and it was superb that all the Team Belgium athletes were at the field. They all waved to the public and all the medal winners from Rio drove around in old cars so it was a great atmosphere".

Ann Bossers, project manager at the Memorial Van Damme VZW, said: "It was a nice attempt with a lot of participants, we were very lucky with the weather which made it very attractive to visit the event. It was also the first time we've actually tried to break a record before the series begun."
