The Guinness world record for the most people spooning simultaneously is 529, in an event organised by the students of Carleton College (USA) in Northfield, Minnesota, USA.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the most people husking corn; it is 3,463 and was achieved at an event organised by the University of Illinois (USA) in Memorial Stadium, Urbana–Champaign, Illinois, USA.

1,108 people have spooned in a row for five minutes, as part of the 2013 Australian Medical Students Association (AMSA) conference on the Gold Coast last week.

Spooning, where one person wraps their arms around another in the manner of spoons bundled together, is a common form of affection.

Final year medical student at Griffith University and co-ordinator of the record attempt, Ms Margaret Mansbridge, said she was incredibly proud of her organising committee and the patience of the delegates who broke the world record.

"This attempt has been a year in the making," Ms Mansbridge said. "Medical students are intelligent and motivated individuals.
"This record is just one example of the creativity and motivation we hold."

The 54th AMSA National Convention is the world's largest student-run convention with over 1,800 medical students in attendance.
