 Most people husking corn: Chilliwack residents breaks world record (VIDEO)

Chilliwack, BC, Canada--More than 600 people stood in the hot sun to celebrate the Star FM's 85th birthday and to simultaneously shuck enough corn - setting the new world record for the Most people husking corn at the same time, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

The Guinness world record for the most people husking corn is 351 and was achieved at an event organised by Knott's Berry Farm (USA) in Buena Park, California, USA.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest popcorn machine, built in five days by Greg Scott Abbott, Wink Eller, Lisa Lejohn, Eric Scarlett, Christoff Koon, Charles Cretors (all USA) in Santa Clarita, California, USA; it measures 6.77 m (22 ft 2.75 in) tall, 2.92 m (9 ft 7 in) wide, 2.46 m (8 ft 1.1 in) deep.

  It was a unique way for Chilliwack radio station 98.3 Star-FM to celebrate its 85th anniversary during the Party in the Park kickoff.

  Star FM program director Teresa Laynes said there was room for 1,000, but in the end approximately 600 unofficial participants took part. Thirtyone had to be disqualified for various reasons, the Chilliwack Times reported.

  Locally, attempt organizers had to use three different counting methods, including the scanning of event participant bibs. Strict rules were in place for entering and leaving the site.
  Some participants had to be disqualified by "stewards" for not adhering to regulations, the Chilliwack Progress reported.

  The corn — about 1000 cobs — was donated by Hofstedes Country Barn.

  The world record shucking attempt was pulled off with the help of 20 stewards, as well as RCMP, who acted as official witnesses to the attempt.
