Most people dressed in green - The Green Festival sets world record
PETERBOROUGH, Newcastle, UK -- More than 90 people and one dog attended Ferry Meadows dressed in green during The Green Festival - setting the new world record for the Most people dressed in green .

Young and old alike wore t-shirts, hats and even shoes to join in the record attempt.

Nyree Ambarchian, from festival organisers PECT, said: “We won’t change the world by wearing green, but it will raise awareness of the cause, and shows Peterborough is committed to becoming Environment Capital. “We didn’t know how many people would turn-out for it, so we were pleased with the turn out.”

Activities included circus performances, schools workshops teaching ways of greener living and stalls giving information on everything from composting to making your own energy.

The festival began in the mid-1990s as an offshoot from Newcastle University’s Green Society and has grown to include scores of community groups and attracts tens of thousands of people.

The two-day free festival, which is organised solely by volunteers, has the aim to showcase the lighter side of protecting the environment. As well as green-themed information stalls and activities there were stages featuring different genres of music, dance classes, stalls selling clothes and jewellery and a mouthwatering range of vegetarian and vegan food on offer.
