  Largest gathering of people wearing googly eye glasses: Youth centre breaks Guinness world record (VIDEO)

LOS ANGELES, CA, USA -- More than 300 people—mostly kids—part of a nonprofit youth center A Place Called Home donned the wacky glasses, cheered, danced and filled up a playground in South Los Angeles - breaking the Guinness World Records' record and setting the new world record for the Largest gathering of people wearing googly eye glasses, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/ .

The Guinness World Records' record for the most people wearing Groucho Marx glasses was achieved by 4,436 participants in an event organised by the City of Chicago's Outdoor Film Festival in partnership with the Goodman Theatre in Chicago, Illinois, USA.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest pair of spectacles; they were manufactured in December 2004 by Errold Jessurun (Netherlands) who is employed by Jess Optiek of Weesp, Netherlands. The spectacles are 1.94 m (6 ft 4. 25in) wide and each lens is 68 cm (2 ft 2.75 in) wide.

  More than 300 people—mostly kids—donned the wacky glasses, cheered, danced and filled up a playground in South Los Angeles.

  They were part of a nonprofit youth center A Place Called Home. The charity provides tutoring and after-school programs to help under-served youth stay in school.

  Jonathan Glatt, chief executive officer of party and costume supply company Private Island Entertainment, donated the glasses and sponsored the event.

  Jonathan Glatt, CEO, Private Island Entertainment: "The idea of the googly eyes comes from more or less, 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit,' when Christopher Lloyd was wearing googly eyes and they fell out of his head. So, I was watching the movie, and thought it would be a really good idea, and that's what the Guinness Book of World Records deemed to be a great idea."
