  Largest gathering of Santa's elves: Thai children break Guinness World Records' record (VIDEO)

BANGKOK, Thailand -- As many as 1,792 of Santa's little helpers, aged between nine and 15, donned red, green and white hats, matching T-shirts and pointy plastic elf ears, clustered into the shape of the word "Siam", the former name of the Southeast Asian country, as they broke the Guinness World Recods world record for the largest gathering of Christmas elves, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/ .

The previous Guinness World Records' record for the largest gathering of Santa's elves is 1,110 and was achieved by Stockeld Park and Martin House Children's Hospice (both UK) in Wetherby, North Yorkshire, UK, on 9 November 2013.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest game of Secret Santa; it consists of 1,463 participants and was achieved by Lexington Catholic High School and area middle schools (USA) in Lexington, Kentucky, USA, on 4 December 2013.

   As many as 1,792 of Santa's little helpers, aged between nine and 15, donned red, green and white hats, matching T-shirts and pointy plastic elf ears, as they formed up outside a shopping mall in Bangkok, the Thai capital.

    The previous Guinness World Records' record was 1,110 Santa's elves, set in 2013 in Wetherby in Britain.

    The children, aged between 9 and 15, formed into clusters that shaped the word "Siam", the former name of the kingdom of Thailand, and held their position for five minutes before being declared World Record winners.

   Although Thailand is a predominantly Buddhist country, the commercial aspect of the Christian holiday is widely exploited, with shops and hotels putting up tinsel and Christmas trees during the festive season.
