  Tallest Pyramid Cake: Stratford University breaks Guinness world record (VIDEO)

   Woodbridge, VA, USA -- Chefs from Stratford Universitybuilt a cake that stood at 9 feet and 2 inches, breaking the previous Guinness World Record for tallest pyramid cake and setting the new world record for the Tallest Pyramid cake, according to the World Record Academy .

The Guinness World Records world record for the longest line of cakes measured 1,604.75 m (5264 ft 11.01 in) and was achieved by 'Cakes for Kids' at a charity event at Middleton Hall in Milton Keynes, UK, on 14 November 2014.

     Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest truffle cake; it is 1,041 kg (2,295 lb) and was made by the Asociacion de pasteleros de Burgos to celebrate the centenary of CAJA CIRCULO in Plaza España, Burgos, Spain, on 19 March 2009.


    The previous Guinness world record was for a cake that measured 6 feet, 5.95 inches and was made by Atul Bakery, Shakti Foundation and Ashwin Sudani in India on Sept. 17, 2016.

    Led by Stratford University Director of Culinary Arts and Hospitality, Chef Raimund Hofmeister and Certified Master Pastry Chef and Stratford instructor, Jan Bandula, Stratford's Tallest Pyramid attempt called for 250 sheet cakes, 500 pounds of icing, and 400 pounds of raspberry jam.

   The finished cake weighed in at nearly 4 tons. The cake was baked at Stratford's Baltimore campus and transported via refrigerated truck for assembly at Potomac Mills Mall in Woodbridge, VA.

   This monumental task included Stratford Master Chefs, Culinary instructors, and students from Stratford's Baltimore MD, and Alexandria, and Woodbridge VA campuses. Instructors and students of the Stratford Hospitality Management program assisted with selling tickets for cake sales and serving the cake.

      Proceeds from the cake sales benefited the Fisher House organization sites at Ft. Belvoir and Richmond VA. Unsold portions were donated to Fisher House; Prince William County Police and Fire and Rescue; and The Good News Community Kitchen.

    All proceeds went to benefit the Fisher House Foundation locations at Ft. Belvoir, VA and Richmond, VA.
