The Guinness World Records' record for the largest serving of fried rice weighs 3,150 kg (6,944.56 lbs) and was achieved by the Turkey Culinary Federation (Turkey) in Bolu, Turkey, on 27 September 2014.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest serving of rice pudding; it weighed 2,070 kg (4,563.56lbs)and was achieved by His Holiness Dr.Vasanth Vijayji Maharaj (India) on behalf of Shree Parshwa Padmavathi Seva Trust, in Krishnagiri, Tamilnadu, India, on 31 May 2015.

The city is the home of Yeung Chow-style fried rice and chefs cooked up 4,192 kg of the dish. CNN.com estimates the record attempt cost the city around $22,000.

The giant pot of fried rice was cooked to mark the 2500 anniversary of the establishment of Yangzhou City. The event was organized by the World Association of Chinese Cuisine, Tourism Bureau of Yangzhou and the Yangzhou Association of Cuisine.

The classic Yangzhou fried rice included rice, eggs, sea cucumbers, chicken drumsticks, ham, dried scallop, shrimp, bamboo shoot and peas. A portion of Yangzhou fried rice usually costs 20 to 50 yuan or more.

Although the organizers got a Guinness World Records certificate at the unveiling, participants ended up with egg in their faces a short time later.

According to eyewitnesses, some workers were seen stepping on the famed Yangzhou fried rice while using shovels to remove it into a dump truck at the Yangzhou Songjia City Sports & Leisure Park after the event on Friday.
They recorded the incident and posted it online. Netizens who saw the clips slammed the organisers for wasting the food.

In response, the organisers clarified that they had to consider safety and health issues. They added that the food was not thrown away but used to feed pigs.

Sang Jian with the China Cuisine Association (CCA) said that workers only had dumped the "non-edible" portion of the record-setting serving, while the lion's share was distributed to locals and university students free of charged as planned, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.

According to an official surnamed Qiu with the Yangzhou Cuisine Association, the event's co-organizer, only the top layer of rice was discarded because it was not sanitary. "We disposed of it for health safety concerns," Qiu said.

It seems the dish violated Guinness rules by not being fit for human consumption, according to a statement by Sharon Yang, Guinness' marketing director in greater China.
