 Largest Pound Cake: Colombia sets world record

BOGOTA, Colombia -- More than 180 Colombians prepared a 606.6-meter (664-yard) pound cake in Bogota; bakers used 2,000 kilos (2.2 tons) of flour, nearly 2,000 kilos of sugar and margarine, 30,000 eggs and 2,000 kilos of green icing to make the World's Largest Pound Cake , according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/ .

The Guinness World Records' record for the longest fruit cake is 503.34 m (1,651 ft 4 in) and was achieved by Panaderia Schick (Nicaragua) at the Centro Comercial Managua, Managua, Nicaragua.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest eccles cake; it weighed 56.2 kg (123 lb 14 oz) and was made by Martins Foods (UK) for the Salford Food and Drink Festival in Manchester, UK.

  More than 180 Colombians prepared a 606.6-meter (664-yard) pound cake in Bogota, setting a world record for the world's biggest pound cake and easily breaking the Guinness World Records' record of 500 meters.

  The event's organizers, Chilean retailer Falabella and cookie company Ramo, distributed 10,000 slices of the cake with green frosting to the public.

  Bakers used 2,000 kilos (2.2 tons) of flour, nearly 2,000 kilos of sugar and margarine, 30,000 eggs and 2,000 kilos of green icing to make the huge cake.

  The event was part of Falabella's celebration of its 7th anniversary in Colombia.
