 Most expensive whisky: Bottle Of Macallan Sells sets world record (VIDEO)

NEW YORK, NY, USA -- A bottle of The Macallan single malt Cire Perdue (which was bottled in a one-of-a-kind Lalique crystal decanter) sold at auction for $460,000 - setting the new world record for the Most expensive whisky sold at auction, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

  The historic auction which took place at Sotheby's in New York was the culmination of a 12-city "tour du monde" of the decanter.

The Guinness world record for the largest bottle of whiskey contained 184 litres (40.47 gal, 48.61 US gal) and was created by Jack Daniel's (USA) and presented at South Street Seaport in New York, New York, USA.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest spirit tasting was achieved by 2,252 participants in an event organised by Whisky Unlimited in Gent, Belgium.

  The rare bottle of Macallan went on a 12 city tour in order to raise money for Charity: Water.

  The Macallan and Lalique were able to raise a total of $600,000 for the clean water charity.

  David Cox, Director of Fine and Rare Whiskies for The Macallan commented: "We are absolutely thrilled to have been awarded the World Record for the most expensive whisky sold at auction.   100 percent of the sale proceeds benefiting charity: water, an organisation that provides access to clean, safe drinking water to people in developing nations.

  The Macallan and Lalique global fundraising tour raised more than $600,000 (£375,000) for charity: water to provide clean water to over 30,000 people.
