  Largest cup of coffee: De'Longhi sets world record

LONDON, UK -- Standing at 2.9m by 2.6m wide, the giant cup of coffee made by De'Longhi was placed in Montgomery Square; it held a total of 13,000 litres of coffee and weighed in at 12.8 tonnes when full, setting the new world record for the Largest cup of coffee, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

The Guinness world record for the largest cup of coffee was 12,847.69 litres (2,826.09 UK gal; 3,394 US gal) and was made by PuertoRicoIsCoffee.com (Puerto Rico) at the Puerto Rico Coffee Expo 2011 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The coffee cup measured 3 m (10 ft) tall and 2.32 m (7.6 ft) in diameter and had a circumference of 7.18 m (23 ft 6.5 in). The amount of coffee was an equivalent of 54,304 cups of coffee.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest cafetière; it is 230 cm (7 ft 6 in) in height and 72 cm (2 ft 4 in) in diameter and was created by Salzillo Tea and Coffee (Spain) in Murcia, Spain.

 The World's Largest Cup of Coffee took a team of four designers and builders some 504 hours to put together.

  Mark Swift, from De'Longhi, said: "As winter is fast approaching, coffee is the perfect way to give you that extra get-up-and-go you need, as well as the perfect way to warm up now the temperature has dropped.

 "We hope that our attempt to beat the Guinness World Record here has put a smile on their faces and we've given communiter a great cup of coffee to start their week."
