The Guinness World Records' record for the largest shopping centre is the Dubai Mall, located within Downtown Dubai, UAE. Consisting of four levels and with an internal floor area of 548,127 m² (5.9 million ft²) it comprises 1,200 retail outlets and over 160 food and beverage outlets. Construction began in 2004, with the mall opening its doors on 4 November 2008.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest underground shopping complex, set by PATH, which is a 29-kilometre (18 mi) network of pedestrian tunnels beneath the office towers of Downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It has 371,600 m² (4 million sq. ft.) of retail space.
