  Longest tie-and-dye cloth: Inez Harwood breaks Guinness world record

OREM, UT, USA -- Woven in South Carolina's Inman Mills with 100 percent domestically grown cotton, the approximately 950 pounds heavy tie-and-dye cloth by American artist Inez Harwood, 36, was made of using 120 pounds of dye and 8,000 zip-ties; measuring 3,153 feet long, it sets the new world record for the Longest tie-and-die cloth, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/ .

 The Guinness world record for the longest table cloth measured 1,763 m (5,784 ft 1 in) in length and was created by a group known as "Gli Amici dell'Aia" (Italy).

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest structure made entirely from cotton tips; it was created by Monika Veidt of Schönebeck, Germany who constructed an armchair using 61,422 cotton tips.

  Breaking Tokushima Japan's Guinness world record holding 2739 feet and five inches long cloth, the all-American manufactured piece of fabric is 3120 feet in length with a towering breadth of 5 foot 5 inches.

  The project is called "Vibrant Protest: Liberty." The creator, Inez Harwood, is a Utah Valley University student who will receive her Bachelor's of Fine Arts in May 2013.

  Inez Harwood, 36, said the word "dying" holds two meanings for her: her love for art and her love for life. "When you die or are going to die the things that are most important to you become so pronounced," Inez said.

  Creating the world's longest tie-dye was a dare by her son and it turned into her senior project.

  The tie-dye project will be displayed at the Woodbury Art Museum in University Mall. Inez dreams of displaying it at the Guggenheim in New York City.
