  Largest toboggan: Lakeland College students break Guinness world record (VIDEO)

Vermilion, AB, Canada -- Students at Lakeland College in Vermilion, Alberta, Canada, celebrated the college's 100th anniversary by riding their giant toboggan past the 100-meter mark, setting the new world record for the Largest toboggan, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

Guinness World Records recognized the world record for the largest surfboard, made by Nev Hyman (Australia), was 12 m (39 ft 4 in) long, 3 m (9 ft 10 in) wide and 30 cm (11.8 in) thick and was launched at Snapper Rocks, Queensland, Australia.

 The Guinness world record for the longest time spent riding a summer toboggan is 56 hours by Michael Kinzel (Germany) who rode the steel toboggan at Panorama Park in Kirchhundem, Germany.

  The world record they broke was for the world's largest toboggan, not the amount of people on it. It had to go a minimum of 100 meters to be considered a valid toboggan run.

  The Guinness world record set in 1987 by students at Lakeland College was based on the number of people they could get on the toboggan—which was 132.

  According to the Vermilion Standard, the official measurements of the three successful runs are as follows.
  The first run travelled a distance of 108.2 meters, with 42 people riding.
  The second run the toboggan went 108.6 meters, with 42 people.
   The third run it went the furthest, with a distance of 109.9 meters, carrying 31 people.

  Once they carved the first path past the 100-meter line, they decided to keep going. The tractor pulled the giant toboggan up the hill and they officially broke the record two more times, before loading up the three smart cars.
