The world's largest sock mosaic was undertaken as part of the city's cooperation with the Italian city of Verona, considered by many to be the mosaic capital of the world.

The Guinness world record for the largest sock measures 9.93 m (32 ft 7 in) x 6.86 m (22 ft 6 in) x 2.49 m (8 ft 2 in) and was created by Project Undercover, Inc. (USA).

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest sock mosaic; it contained 4,278 socks, measured 7,62 m x 6,92 m., and was created in Hikone, Shiga, Japan.

Residents of the city were asked by the municipality to bring socks for the project. "Make sure they are clean," was an important part of the request.

Anat Shamai, one of the artists, was very pleased with the result. The town will go down in history thanks to something "good and funny," she said. It's a project that "contributed educationally to society."
